Every year Aloha Theatre includes one junior show in their season, giving young performers between 5 and 18 the chance to perform in a large-scale production. This year that show is Disney’s Descendants: The Musical. Based on the Disney channel original movies, this show explores what the relationship between the children of Disney’s classic villains and heroes might be like. Notorious villains Cruella De Vil, Queen Grimhilde, Jafar, and Maleficent have been banished to The Isle of the Lost where magic is impossible. Meanwhile, King Beast and Queen Belle are ruling the peaceful and prosperous land of Auradon. Their son, Prince Ben, is preparing to ascend to the throne and makes a shocking proclamation. He will bring the children of their mortal enemies from the Isle to Auradon to study and live among them. The villians’ children have never ventured off the island… until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disneyheroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good? What follows is a heartwarming and funny tale of redemption, forgiveness, and love.
This production features performances from more than 20 young people from across Hawaii Island, many performing on stage for the very first time. It was directed by Amelia Thorne with choreography by Christian Aragon and vocal direction by Wendy Buzby. Disney’s Descendants: The Musical will run at the Aloha Theatre from June 2nd through June 18th with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday afternoons at 2:30.
